Start Before You’re Ready

How I Took the Leap and Why You Should Too
1

Hey, it’s Joseph. I’m doing something a little different today.

I decided to record this piece as an audio because I want you to have the choice — to listen along, to take it in while you’re on a walk, driving, or just sitting back and letting the words sink in.

I’ve been feeling inspired lately to incorporate more of my voice into what I share — not just through images but through moments like this, where we can connect a little deeper.

Because today, I want to talk about something that’s been on my mind a lot: Starting before you’re ready.

It’s one of the most powerful ways to step into the life you want, to close the gap between where you are and where you’re headed.

And I can tell you from personal experience, it’s one of the hardest things to do but also one of the most transformative.

So, wherever you are right now, whether you’re listening or reading, I invite you to come along for the ride.

Let’s talk about how starting before you’re ready can unlock those deep desires you keep putting off — and how it’s closer than you think.

Uncomfortable Beginning

When I look back on when I first started taking photography seriously, I can still feel that sense of not being ready.

I didn’t have all the fancy gear or a polished portfolio.

I had this vision of capturing people in a way that felt bold, real, and unforgettable — but honestly, I felt like an imposter.

I remember one of my first shoots.

I was nervous, overthinking every shot, wondering if I was even good enough to be doing this.

But I did it anyway. And that’s when things started to change.

Because the truth is, the feeling of not being ready never really goes away.

But what I realized is this: Starting before you’re ready isn’t about feeling fully prepared — it’s about trusting that the process will teach you what you need to know.

It’s about being okay with fumbling, with making mistakes, with learning on the go.

And that’s what I tell my clients, too.

I see them hold back, waiting for that perfect moment to book the shoot, launch the project, or step into a new version of themselves.

But here’s the thing — those ‘perfect’ moments are rare.

What really gets you moving forward is the courage to act, even when you feel unprepared.

So, what’s that thing you keep putting off?

What’s that project, that brand update, that next step you keep waiting to feel ready for?

Because sometimes, the only way to really become ready is to just start.

Building Momentum Through Action

Once you take that first step — even if it’s messy, even if you’re unsure — something starts to shift.

You begin to build momentum.

I’ve seen it with my clients time and time again.

They come to me feeling stuck, wanting to rebrand, update their personal image, or launch a new project.

But they’re waiting — waiting for everything to align perfectly.

But here’s the thing: Momentum doesn’t come from waiting. It comes from doing.

From taking those small, imperfect actions that inch you closer to where you want to be.

One way I help my clients get that first step going is through the Houston Impact Brand Quiz.

It’s a quick, no-pressure way to evaluate where you are and where you want to go.

You’re not committing to a full transformation — you’re just getting a sense of what needs to be refined, what’s already working, and what could use a little boost.

And that’s the thing.

When you take small steps — when you start moving, even in the smallest way — you build momentum.

And that momentum?

That’s what creates confidence. That’s what moves you forward.

So, if you’re feeling stuck or unsure, ask yourself: What’s one small step you can take right now to move the needle forward?

Because those small steps? They add up.

Visualizing Your Transformation

Now, let’s talk about something powerful: visualization.

When you start before you’re ready, it’s easy to get caught up in the action and forget why you’re doing it in the first place.

But taking a moment to truly visualize what you want is one of the most effective ways to set the wheels in motion.

I remember when I first started thinking about where I wanted my photography business to go.

It wasn’t just about taking pictures — it was about capturing the essence of someone’s personal journey, helping them express who they were becoming.

It was about creating something that would last, something that would represent them on a deeper level.

That visualization kept me going.

It gave me the clarity to take the next step, even when it felt like I wasn’t fully ready.

And I believe this is key for anyone — whether you’re rebranding yourself or embarking on something new, visualizing where you want to go makes the journey clearer.

Let me ask you this: How does it feel to see yourself in the place you want to be?

What does it look like to you?

When you really feel into that vision, suddenly the start doesn’t feel as scary.

It’s not about waiting for the perfect moment, it’s about making that vision come to life through your actions.

Once you’ve got that visualization, take inspired action.

Sometimes it’s driven by excitement.

Other times, it’s fueled by commitment.

But either way, when you start with a clear picture of where you’re headed, the path becomes easier to follow.

Wrapping Up

So, to wrap this all up, here’s what I want you to take away from today: Starting before you’re ready isn’t about waiting for that perfect moment or getting everything right.

It’s about taking that first step, no matter how small, and letting momentum build from there.

It’s about progress over perfection, because the truth is, you’re never going to feel fully ready.

But when you start, you learn, you grow, and you keep moving forward.

And remember, it’s not just about actions.

It’s about visualizing where you want to go.

Once you can see it in your mind, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it becomes to take that leap.

So, if you’re ready to take that next step, whatever it might be — whether it’s updating your personal image, launching a new project, or anything else — I’m here for you.

Let’s connect.

I’d love to help guide you through that next phase and support you on your journey.

Thank you for listening, and remember: You’re always ready to start. It just takes that first step.
